“Throughout my work, I expressed interest in self-discovery and the everyday occurrences of the surrounding world. Growing up, living and working as a studio artist in the biggest market place of Africa “Merkato” Addis Ababa influences my work. Human life and emotions are main inspirations….Mankind is unique in its ability to think and this great gift of thought is the source of our emotions in life. My artistic practice feeds my fascination with figurative art and my great admiration for impressionism and expressionism. Main subjects…human figures and portraits of people around me, my family, my friends, and the people who have stories to tell. I love daily sketching live from active parts of the city and places I have visited, which help me discover deep human emotions. I convey my ideas through painting, drawing and sketches… creating a monochromatic and analogous color harmony with highly contrasting value and color to the subject. I want my work to create consciousness … self-awareness, curiosity for others’ self- examination.”
