Dawit Tamrat

ETHIOPIA, ADDIS ABABA

Dawit followed his passion for art and attending Teferi Mekonen Art School and Addis Ababa University Ale School of Fine Art and Design, specializing in print making. Receiving formal training gave him the techniques and academic skills needed to showcase his artististic vision while; experimenting with painting, graphic design and animations. Dawit has participated in group exhibitions at GOETHE Institute, Teferi Mekonen Art Gallery, National Palace of Ethiopia and Art Space Korea 2023.

“My work is a contrast or juxtaposition of ideas using houses as subjects to show the negative and positive sides of life. Our houses scan our upbringing or our identity… For this reason, I want to show the superiority of ideas by taking a house as an idea and layering one on top of the other. Thought overcomes thought. Two different thoughts do not exist in the same place and time. Zen philosophy teaches that it is impossible to think of two things at once … actually one thought must disappear before the next can appear. In everyday life, we assume we can perceive subject and object at the same time. For example, "I am seeing this or that; At any given moment, though, there is only one sense, impression. This means essentially it isn’t me who sees, hears, tastes, thinks and so on, but rather another thought created after the fact.”
