Ruth Getachew

ETHIOPIA, ADDIS ABABA

Ruth Getachew is a visual artist, born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1998 GC. Recognizing her talent since age 2, her parents enrolled her in summer art classes, in Abyssinia Fine Arts & Modeling School for six consecutive years since age 7. This led to her art being included in group exhibitions at Ethiopian National Theatre Art Gallery 2005-2011. Her uncle Getachew Berhanu, a traditional painter, also inspired her. Ruth went on to win sub-district to city level art competitions and the Ethiopian Herald newspaper included her in a review entitled “Promising Females Talent” in 2019 GC. She received a BFA in painting from Alle School of Fine Arts and Design (AAU) in 2023 GC.

“I continue to work on the theme from my graduation which focuses on creating deep insight on the fact that everything is fundamentally energy, which is in constant vibration… affecting our lives intensely. My work is also simultaneously linked to a theme in alignment with elements that tell about Africa. I am a member of African Studies Professionals Association (ASPA) and U.S. Embassy’s Satchmo Center at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.”
